How to export Google Maps results to CSV

Published 8 October 2026 · Gmap Data guides

A clean CSV is the bridge between a Maps search and the tool you actually work in. This guide shows what to check in the file, how to import it well, and the mistakes that cost the most time later.

The workflow follows the Gmap Data export path, but the spreadsheet and CRM advice applies to any Google Maps data export.

What a useful export contains

A CSV from a Maps extraction is only as good as its columns. A file with just a name and phone number is hard to work with; a file with address parts, category, website, contact evidence and provenance can go straight into a CRM or a territory analysis.

Gmap Data exports the full saved record with stable column names, so the same file shape works for a spreadsheet review today and a CRM import next month.

Step by step: from search to spreadsheet

  1. Save a search

Run a Maps search and let the businesses land in your workspace. Deduplication by place id happens before saving.

  2. Review and enrich

Check the saved rows, then optionally run email discovery and provider enrichment so contact columns are populated.

  3. Export CSV

Download the CSV from the Businesses view, a run, or a project. The project export reads live contact evidence at export time.

  4. Import and map

Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, or import it into your CRM and map the columns once.

Column groups to check in your file

  • Identity: name and place_id. Keep place_id as the stable external identifier for deduplication on import.
  • Location: address, address parts, city, state, postal code and country for filtering and territory reporting.
  • Contact surface: phone numbers and website. The website field is empty when the listing does not publish one.
  • Profile: categories, rating, review count, price level and business status for qualification.
  • Operations: hours and time zone for call timing.
  • Contacts: emails with source, quality class and deliverability evidence when enrichment has run.
  • Attribution: the trailing google_attribution cell on rows that contain Google-derived fields.

Importing into Excel, Sheets or a CRM

  • Open the file as UTF-8 so accented business names and addresses are not mangled.
  • Do not edit or reorder the header row if you plan to re-import or refresh the same file; stable headers are what keep mappings working.
  • Use place_id as the unique key where your CRM supports an external id, so a refresh updates instead of duplicating.
  • Split multi-value cells such as emails, phone numbers or categories only after import, so the source file stays canonical.
  • Treat empty cells as unknown, not as zero. A missing rating is not a zero rating.

Common mistakes

  • Copying email addresses into a separate file and losing their source, quality class and verification status along the way.
  • Using an entire email list from a project without checking suppression and bounce state.
  • Removing the attribution column before sharing a Google-derived export.
  • Assuming a fresh export replaces an old one: a project export is a current read, while an old file is a snapshot in time.
  • Importing phone numbers as numbers rather than text, which drops leading zeros and country formatting.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I export a single run, a project, or the whole workspace?

CSV export is available from the Businesses view, individual runs and projects. A project export uses the canonical column contract and reads live contact evidence.

Which columns are stable across exports?

Existing column names and positions do not move when new fields are added. New columns are appended, so an existing CRM mapping keeps working.

How do I avoid duplicates when importing to a CRM?

Use the place_id column as the external identifier. Each Google place has one id, so an import can update an existing record instead of creating a second one.

Why are some cells empty?

The source listing or website did not publish that field. Empty means unknown, and Gmap Data never fills gaps with fabricated values.

Can I export to Google Sheets directly?

For customers the export path is CSV, which opens directly in Google Sheets. The Google Sheets writer is an operator-workspace tool and is not part of the customer export path.
